Manly coach Trent Barrett says his side is still carrying the effects of their gruelling draw to open the NRL season.

Barrett was on Friday responding to comments from veteran Brisbane coach Wayne Bennett, who claimed the demanding Origin schedule and not five-day turnarounds had a bigger impact on a team's performance.

Manly had four five-day turnarounds in the first nine weeks of the season, Barrett saying the tough draw had fatigued his playing group and it was showing in their performance and injury toll.
