Barrett out to restore Fortress Brookvale

New Manly coach Trent Barrett has vowed to once again make Brookvale Oval a fortress.

Barrett has kicked his feet under his desk at the Sea Eagles' Narrabeen base in preparation for the 2016 NRL season and has set his sights on reversing the side's poor home record.

The former NSW and Australian five-eighth was installed as coach after Geoff Toovey was axed following the side's disappointing campaign which saw them miss the finals for the first time in a decade.

As well as winning 11 of their 24 games to finish ninth, they won just five from 10 at Brookvale.

That included a 46-10 thrashing by the Sydney Roosters in round 25, their heaviest defeat at Brookvale in 52 years.

Barrett said he wanted to restore the aura of Brookvale as an intimidating place for opposition sides.

"That's pretty unusual because Manly are historically very strong at Brookvale," Barrett said on NRL 360 on Fox Sports.

"That's something we will have to try and fix.

"But I think the start of the year is the big one and once I get in there, I'm not going to look back, we don't want to be re-hashing what went on because we do have new players there."
